Budget 17 April 2002 - Introduction

This Report covers the principal business and taxation changes announced in the 2002 Budget, and was written immediately after the Chancellor of the Exchequer delivered his Budget Speech.

As has become a pattern, the Budget contained the details on a number of changes which had been heralded in the weeks and months preceding 17 April, as well as a number of innovative announcements.

Our 2002/03 tax calendar details some of the key dates and deadlines for the forthcoming year.

We have included a number of pointers throughout this guide, but tax and financial planning should not be restricted to the short time before and after the Budget Speech each year. Keep your plans under review, and discuss them with us at regular intervals. We can help you to ensure that your plans not only reflect changes in your business and in your personal life, but also take account of the latest changes in legislation.

Special Feature

Typical of the trend for announcements in advance are the changes to the system of taxing company cars, which were first announced in 2000 but came into effect on 6 April 2002.

In this special feature on Company cars - the new rules we explain how the revised system works, and how it might affect you.
